I'm  currently serving on the board of the Japanese American Service Committee (JASC). Please consider attending our June 7, 2012 spring benefit. I'm donating an original painting "Flower for your Heart" (see below) to the silent auction and I'll be showing two new paintings in a special one night group exhibition.

Living Our Culture: A celebration of Japanese American art and culture
to benefit
the Japanese American Service Committee
June 7th 2012
6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Greenhouse Loft – 2545 West Diversey Avenue, Chicago, IL
Details: Asian-inspired appetizers and cocktails, and an art show and auction featuring the work of established and emerging Japanese American artists

The new Japanese American Service Committee (JASC) spring event, Living Our Culture, is just a few short weeks away.  This is an exciting new event for our organization and I sincerely hope you’ll be able to join us for a reception, exhibition and silent auction on the evening of Thursday, June 7th at the Greenhouse Loft at 2545 West Diversey Avenue – recently opened as among the premiere LEED-certified event venues in the country, with an 8,000 foot organic sky garden that will be open for our event, weather-permitting!

We have an extraordinarily talented, well-regarded and diverse group of artists who will be showing work of all kinds on that evening.  Our list of featured artists includes Irene Suyeoka, George Suyeoka, Mayumi Lake, Michiko Itatani, Lisa Nishi, Michio Iwao, Amy Lee Segami, Tony Fitzpatrick, Laura Kina, Michael Tanimura and David Tanimura.

Thanks to staff and our group of volunteers, we have an incredible list of auction items that go far beyond art – including a one-week stay in Hawaii, a weekend at a Michigan lakehouse, gift certificates to some of Chicago’s best restaurants (including Tru and NoMi) and a variety of special packages for cultural events and experiences throughout Chicago.

The JASC has never planned an event quite like this – between the incredible space, the innovative Asian-inspired cuisine, great wine and an exciting auction – there will be something for everyone. The event won't be complete without having you there! So please register to attend! http://www.jasc-chicago.org/loc12/

About the JASC:
The Japanese American Service Committee (JASC) was founded in 1946 as the Chicago Resettlers Committee with a mission to preserve and raise awareness of Japanese American culture and heritage and to promote the physical and spiritual well-being of Japanese Americans and the greater multicultural community in the Midwest. The Legacy Center and cultural programs at the JASC seek to highlight the rich heritage of Japanese Americans in Chicago while highlighting their contributions to the cultural vitality of our society.  The JASC’s programs include The Legacy Center Collection, an archival collection of national significance that paints a powerful and complex portrait of the community’s life before, during and after the period of World War internment.  The organization additionally operates, independently and in concert with an impressive roster of partner agencies, a series of exhibits and programs that explore history, open dialogues, advance tolerance and celebrate diversity.
